A project to develop a board game to enhance media literacy skills.
The concept originated from playing board games, where it was discovered that players learned the content within the games unconsciously. For example, memorizing maps of major countries while playing a train-building game, and sequencing events through discussions with fellow players. It was also observed that players tended to stay focused on the game and converse with their peers for extended periods. This led to the idea of using board games as a "medium" to present content, hoping players would gradually absorb it without being forced to read it.
Then, the issue of media literacy arose. From my previous studies, I learned that media consumers tend to judge the credibility of media based on emotions first. Therefore, there should be principles or guidelines for media consumers to use as a basis for making decisions about receiving content from the media. I thought of using a board game as a "medium" to create a learning activity by having players focus on the principles for judging media content.
