Who would have thought that the "giant," with its big fangs, thick eyebrows, fierce face, and massive build—the kind of statue seen guarding temples with clubs, a fearsome sight even in literature, only ever playing the role of a villain who loves a womanizer? And Thai proverbs even describe a "flirtatious giant" as someone who resorts to violence and cruelty when things don't go their way. Who would have thought that this monstrous image could be transformed into something adorable, appearing in the game and application "YAKLAND," developed by Thais? Inspired by the desire to promote Thailand's beautiful cultural and architectural sites to the world, the giant has been transformed into six lovable characters, each with a distinct personality.
.
Asura, the eldest and most peace-loving giant, represents justice and is selfless.
Phu Pha, the compassionate and selfless green giant, is a source of support for everyone.
Mekha, a giant who loves freedom, is thoughtful, curious, and eager to learn.
Akki, the brave red giant, loves adventure and enjoys new challenges.
Vari, the sky giant, is reasonable, calm, methodical, and always puts the greater good first.
.
Asanee is a swift and sincere giant.
Sunisa Sripholthas, a member of the game and application development team from Brother Picture Co., Ltd., shared the initial idea behind the development of the YAKLAND game, which was presented to the Safe and Creative Media Development Fund and subsequently received strategic funding in 2563. The game is packed with diverse interconnected technologies and features, including augmented reality (AR) technology, interactive chatbots acting as tour guides, the integration of the real and virtual worlds, and a points accumulation system for discounts at participating stores.
Besides the fun of chasing and raising giants, the YAKLAND application also features photo opportunities with six adorable animated giants, a mini-game where you ride a tuk-tuk chasing other giants to collect points and score points in your free time, and a Chatbot mode that acts as a tour guide, answering questions related to the temple, nearby attractions, restaurants, stories, or routes. You can even click on a Google Map link to instantly get to your destination.
The YAKLAND game and application, available in both Thai and English, was recently launched. The developers aimed to encourage teenagers and young tourists to visit temples more, but the response has been overwhelmingly positive. Not only children and teenagers, but also working adults, seniors, and international tourists have shown great interest, resulting in over 20,000 downloads already. Join the adventure with adorable giants in YAKLAND, a new kind of cultural tourism game that lets people from all over the world experience the charm of Thailand's important temples through history and culture, while having fun with six Thai giant characters. It's becoming popular with people of all ages, who are spreading the word that YAKLAND is cute, fun, and addictive – once you try it, you'll be hooked!
